Here’s a link to a video that shows proof by induction step by step. It makes the algebra (which is the hardest part, really) look a lot easier and gives a few hints on what to do if you get stuck.

Inductive reasoning is basically taking specific information (one particular domino; n or 1) and making a generalized statement (any domino; k). Proof by induction doesn’t prove any specific domino falls, rather that dominoes fall in general.

http://www.purplemath.com/modules/inductn.htm. Induction is not as complicated as it seems at first. Going through step-by-step helps a lot. If you think about it, making assumptions is not “cheating.” If your assumption is valid and what you are proving is “true,” then you will prove what you are trying to. If what you are trying to prove something that can’t be proved, then obviously your assumption will not turn out to be true, and you will know that the equation you use doesn’t work for every answer. Read this website, they do a good job of explaining everything.
