AMC 10/12

Posted by Reversearp

Not much happening today. About 40 students altogether participated in the AMC 10/12 contest. Being a national contest it will be interesting to see how we rank. We had about 3 students go on to the next round last year which is the AIME contest.

Back in class we worked on a small review of section 7.2. Basically writing equations for lines, exponentials and quadratics. We’ve got to get to those presentation problems soon – I’m thinking Thursday.

Sad day today…

Maybe too sad to mention. Parents should never have to outlive their children. Friends shouldn’t have to outlive their friends although it can’t happen any other way.

We tried to cover a little ground on power functions and exponential functions. We looked at some slides and talked about general behavior: power functions might contain the origin but not exponentials, exponentials have a y-intercept but not power functions.

Next we’d like to talk about the more complicated power functions that have restrictions on their domain and range.

AMC10/12 test tomorrow. Seems hard to focus but we’ll see what we can do.
